Have you ever bought a mobile or broadband connection and later found out it costs more than you thought? Yes? Well, so did Ofcom who are going to regulate to stop unfair additional charges.
The telecommunications watchdog has recognised that many businesses are not being upfront about additional charges on various products they offer. Ofcom are looking at ways to ensure that all charges and costs are made clear to the prospective customer prior to purchase.
Ed Richards, Ofcom Chief Executive, confirmed that their proposals should lead to more companies being more open and clear about their prices. He also stated that Ofcom would not shy away from confrontation and would take court action against any company failing to comply with their directive.
Debtwatchdog is encouraged by Ofcom's actions. Far too many times we, the consumers, research the market and sign up for the cheapest broadband or satellite packages - only to find out that we had not been given the full story. It is these types of practice which add to the misery of people with debt problems. The result of Ofcom's actions will mean that it is easier to identify and compare the best value products and services available.
