Interest rates to remain the same

Sunday 22nd June, 2008 Debt consolidation article

It has been predicted that the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will not increase the cost of borrowing this summer. Which is good news for those who are either looking for a debt consolidation loan or a debt management plan.

Simon Ward, chief economist for the New Star, has predicted that an increase in interest rates would have serious repercussions. Although there is pressure to increase rates due to inflation being above the government's 2% target Ward maintains that a raise in interest rates would transform a "painful economic adjustment into an unnecessary bust".

Ward cites that a worsening in company liquidity and low growth potential would stop the previously predicted two quarter-point rises in interest rates. "With inflation and inflation expectations rising, the MPC has little choice but to sit on its hands for the foreseeable future," Mr Ward says.

This will come as some relief for those who have being juggling their debts either using debt consolidation or debt management. At the start of the year, things looked very bleak for those who had debt problems as the credit crunch worsened. If, as predicted, the interest rates remain constant then those who have debt problems should use this respite and examine the various debt solutions and get themselves out of debt.

The scare of the credit crunch should not be ignored especially by those who feared losing everything if debt became expensive. We all should examine ways in we can survive without credit and stop mounting debt ruling our lives. Living within our means and saving for the future is a prudent way to handle our finances and our ultimate goal should be to carry as little debt as possible.

If you are struggling with debt consolidation or debt management don't ignore it and address the problem.
